Scope

Our focus was people approaching later life (aged 50-59) and in later life (aged 60+) living in four cities and their surrounding areas: Oxford, Reading, Bristol and Cardiff. Read more about our case study areas.

We paid attention to the effects of the physical and technological environment on older people’s cycling at different scales. For example, at the micro level such as bicycle equipment and route signs up to the much larger scale, such as street design and cycle networks.

We adopted a life course perspective. This meant understanding the influences of early life experience in shaping later life and also the impact of social, economic and technological changes that had taken place over time.
